Kief is the collection of loose trichomes (resin glands) that fall off cannabis flower during handling, grinding, or processing. These tiny, crystal-like particles contain the highest concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes in the cannabis plant. Kief appears as a fine, powdery substance that ranges from light golden to greenish-brown in color. When you use a grinder with a kief catcher (the bottom chamber), the trichomes that break off during grinding collect below the screen. Kief is essentially the raw material that hash is made from — when pressed together, kief becomes hash.

How do you use kief?
The easiest way is to sprinkle kief on top of a bowl of flower in a pipe or bong (called 'crowning a bowl'). You can also add it to a joint for extra potency, press it into hash, infuse it into butter for edibles, or vaporize it. Kief is very potent — a small amount goes a long way.
How strong is kief?
Kief typically contains 40-60% THC compared to 15-30% in regular flower. A small pinch of kief added to a bowl can significantly increase its potency. Use sparingly, especially if you have a low tolerance.
How do you collect kief?
The easiest method is using a 3-chamber or 4-chamber grinder with a kief screen. As you grind flower, trichomes fall through the screen and collect in the bottom chamber. Over time, you accumulate a usable amount. You can also collect kief by dry sifting flower over mesh screens.
