What are edibles and how long do they take to work?
Edibles are cannabis-infused food products that you eat or drink. They work differently than smoking or vaping.
Common Edible Types: - Gummies (most popular) - Chocolates - Baked goods (cookies, brownies) - Hard candies and mints - Beverages - Tinctures (drops under tongue)
How Long Until Effects? - Onset: 30 minutes to 2 hours - Peak effects: 2-4 hours after consumption - Total duration: 4-8 hours (sometimes longer)
Why So Long? Edibles must be digested and processed by your liver before THC enters your bloodstream. This is different from smoking, which goes directly to your brain via lungs.
Dosing for Beginners: - Start: 2.5-5mg THC - Wait: At least 2 hours before taking more - Standard dose: 10mg (but too much for most beginners) - Experienced: 20-50mg+
Golden Rules: 1. START LOW: 2.5-5mg for first time 2. GO SLOW: Wait 2+ hours before redosing 3. Be patient: Effects WILL come, just slowly 4. Eat first: Having food in stomach helps
Common Mistake: "It's not working" → eating more → too high. Don't do this! Wait the full 2 hours.
At The Library: Ask for low-dose options (2.5-5mg per piece). Our budtenders can recommend beginner-friendly edibles.
