CBC (cannabichromene) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. It is one of the six major cannabinoids studied extensively by researchers, alongside THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, and THCV. Like CBD, CBC does not produce a high. CBC is derived from the same precursor as THC and CBD — cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) — making it a sibling cannabinoid. Research suggests CBC may have anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, and pain-relieving properties, and it appears to work synergistically with other cannabinoids through the entourage effect.

CBC FAQ

What does CBC do?

CBC interacts with the endocannabinoid system differently than THC or CBD. Research suggests it may reduce inflammation, relieve pain, combat depression, and inhibit cancer cell growth (in preclinical studies). CBC appears to work best in combination with other cannabinoids rather than in isolation — this is called the entourage effect.

Is CBC the same as CBD?

No. CBC (cannabichromene) and CBD (cannabidiol) are different cannabinoids with different chemical structures and different mechanisms of action. Both are non-psychoactive, but they interact with different receptors in the body. CBD is much more widely studied and commercially available than CBC.

Can you buy CBC products?

CBC products are becoming available but are much less common than CBD or THC products. You may find CBC in full-spectrum cannabis products that contain all naturally occurring cannabinoids. Some companies are beginning to produce isolated CBC oils and tinctures. Check your local dispensary for CBC-containing products.
